Vacations & Good and bad news

Ok, I know that I am a little disappeared...ok ok...not a little...VEEERY. But now, in this post, I'm going to try to tell you about the most important things that have happened since I had been here for the last time.

Many things happened and truly I don't know how to start. Hummm...perhaps appologizing must be a good start hum (when I say or hear the sound "HUM" in the end of a sentence, I remember my teacher Sonia...rsss - I like her).

Ok, David is no more our teacher on Thursdays. People at school told us that he went back to his country - Canada. Now, the new teacher is Dorothy. She is funny and a good teacher.

So, Sonia around 6 weeks ago went to her country - the USA - because she was on vacation. The step teacher was a young and beautiful girl called Terry (I don't know how to write her name). She is also from the USA. My colleagues and I liked her. She is very calm and speaks so softly. Hey ,Sonia, don't be
jealous, you are special...rs

After the first class with Terry I also got on vacation. I traveled a lot. I went to São Paulo, Formosa, Cristalina, Alto Paraíso and São Jorge. I also received a special visit from São Paulo: my big friend Cristina. All the time was very funny and amazing. When I returned, Sonia was still on vacation and I took the last class with Terry and the others told me that a colleague called Flávia left us to take private classes. I think that she did a good thing for her. Her English is very good, much better than ours.

Nothing in life is totally perfect. Another thing happened, something that I didn't like, but some things cannot be said. So, it drives me angry and I think that "we" need change this - sad - reality. Arrogance is not a good thing.

Well, Sonia returned from the USA and brought us some candies...delicious candies.

After the next class, the
rhythm of this blog will return to the normal. I promise...rs

Yesterday night, my friends and I went to a free concert at CCBB (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil - Bank of Brazil Cultural Center) to watch a concert of Dado Villa Lobos, a guitar player who played in the 80's in a very famous Brazilian band called "Legião Urbana". The concert was very good and it reminded me about how the song of that band - that doesn't exist anymore - are wonderful. The lyrics are poetic, I got emocioned
.

Below I put a video from Youtube of song called "Monte Castelo" with subtitles in Portuguese.

Watch it and have fun.

"Even if I could speak the human's language... even if I could speak the angel's language...without love I wouldn't be anything..."

Ok...good bye

PS.: the photo of an "empadão goiano" there is just because...

Traveling around the world - my twenty first class

Hey Hey

My last class with David - on March 31st - was not with David, because he was - sick ,I think - so, that day we got class with Melissa. She is brasilian but she had lived in a lot of countries like: Spain, United Kingdon, U.S.A., Servia and others.

So, she told us how it is to live in other places and that she has a "mistery" with the letter "B". It is because she has lived in many places that the name starts with "B" like: Belgrado, Berlin, Barcelona, Brasília and others.

Since I have a fried who lives in Servia, I asked her how it is to live there and she told us that Servia is the most diferent plance in Europe and that the servians luck like brasilians.

She said that the servian women are very beatiful: tall, thin, blond and with blue eyes and that they dress very provocatively but in truth, they are very shamed.

We talked about politics too and I said that my life and my family's life was improved after Lula.
He is not a God, but he did a good job. Many brasilian people are no more poor and many others have now money not only to eat, but to buy a new car or the first own house.

So, she said that it is very dagerous, because Brazil can be like U.S.A., and I said that I know that, but is better to be like the U.S.A., than Somalia.

Well, I left the class five minutes earlier - sadly - but it was because I was going to the cimena to see "Esposa de mentirinha" with a friend and the session started at 21:30h.

So, I really loved that class, I for me it was a pleasure to meet Melissa.

I don't believe - my twentyth class

HI

Ok, I will be brief.

I prefer not to make a comment about my - supposed - last class with Sonia - on March 28th.

The only thing that I wanna say is: about that day I'm felling like the picture on top.

Reading a lot - my nineteenth class

HI FRIEND - OR NOT

My last class with David - on March 24th - was a bit boring because: at first - just Flavia and I went to the clas and secondly - we read...read...read..and read more.

I think that we read about twenty leaves.
We read about italian food and other things. Hey...lets wake up. LOL.

I'm sure reading is very important, but it is not enough.

Personality test - my eighteenth class

HI

My last English class with Sonia, on March 21st, was really amazing.

We talked about movies. This subject started because Márcio was there with two DVD's that he and his family watched during the weekend.

Sonia asked me if I had gone to Shakira's concert last week. No, I didn't. By the way, the concert was cancelled because of the strong rain.

We talked about chocolate and how the Brazilian chocolate is sweeter than ihe ones made in other coutries.

Maybe that is the reason why I don't LOOOOVE chocolate, but when a FINE chocolate "throws" into my hands I really get crazy.

We reviewed the active and passive voices and we took the Tibetan Personality Test.

This test was created by a Dalai Lama. It is a very simple test that can describe your personality and how your life is in this moment.

Well, speaking of personality test, according to one topic of the test my CAREER is my current priority, and according to another topic, I am a SMART person... (it can be good....or not...rs).

So, this theme took us to another theme: Chinese Zodiac. According to Chinese Zodiac, I'm PIG, and being pig means:

"Noble and strong, the Boar or Pigs are noble creatures and will always put others ahead of themselves, especially their family. Friendships they build will last a long time even though the reckless nature of a Pig can sometimes be tough to handle. Pigs are a bane to themselves".

So, I already have used this test with my friends.

OK guys, that is all for now. See you soon...kisses and hugs!

Ps.: this is my favorite chocolate

Poker - my seventeenth class

HI, HOW ARE YOU?

At the last class with David, on March 17th, we had a lot of fun.

We played, one more time, hung man. This game is really great to improve the vocabulary.

We also started to learn how to play poker. I was sure that game was very difficult, but not. I guess that it is easy, you just need to have good luck and be smart.

During the class I needed to go out the classroom for a few minutes because two friends of mine went to the school to get with me tickets for a concert. These friends are Dinho and Binho, from Goiânia.

At that time, it was raining cats and dogs, but it was very good to see them again.

Ok guys, good luck for you.

Voices - My Sixteenth Class

HI

At my last class with Sonia, on March 14th, we talked about how our weekend was, like every class.

We continued to talk about Present Perfect and Past Perfect and started to talk about Passive and Active voices.

We talked about movies and books.

I just know that class was very very interesting and it ended 30 minutes later.

Sonia asked us about a change of schedule. The next class will sart 30 minutes earlier.

Since some days have passed from that class, I forgot many things, but I promise that I will tell you more about my next class with Sonia.

I missed again - my fifteenth class

HI!

Poor David. I missed my last class with him....Again!

Not por David....Poor Vitor...rsss, if I continue to do that, I will never learn.

It was on March tenth, one day after ash wednesday and like I said, my soul was in carnaval yet, rs.

I go to Rio de Janeiro - my third class

HI!

Well, I know I'm late. It is because...huuummm... there is no explanation, I'm late and that is all.

During the last class with Sonia - on February 28th - we continued to talk about Present Perfect, and we started to learn Past Perfect Tense. Sonia told us: "The past perfect tense describes a past action that happened before another action in the past. It is often used in English when we are relating two events which happened in the past. It helps to show which event happened first..."

One more time, we talked about Holidays,. It is because this week is Carnaval and we will not have class on the next Monday.

Speaking of Carnaval, during all the class, the teacher was shaking her shoulders and singing "Riioooo de Janeirooo", just those three words. We - the students - didn't understand anything, so, at the end of the class, a classmate asked her what that was. Sonia got surprised because we didn't know that song.

So, she sent us a URL of a video where "Muppets" sing that song that is named "I go to Rio".
I put below a video with "Muppets", the lyrics, and another full version of the video performance by Peter Allen.

I need to say something. I'm sure that class was the BEST class that I have had until now. I like that kind of class. More dinamic.

Performance by Muppets

"I Go To RIO"
Pablo Cruise
"When my baby,
When my baby smiles at me,
I go to Rio
De Janeiro.
My-o me-o...
I go wild and then
I have to do the samba,
And la bamba.

Now I'm not the kind of person,

With a passion or persuasion
For dancin' or romancin'.
But I give in to the rhythm,
And my feet follow the beating
Of my heart.

whoa oh ohh...

When my baby,
When my baby smiles at me,
I go to Rio
De Janeiro.
I'm a Salsa fella,
When my baby smiles at me,
The sun lightens up my life,
And I am free at last.
What a blast!

Whoa oh ohh...

When my baby,
When my baby smiles at me,
I feel like Tarzan
Of the Jungle.
There on the hot sand,
In a bungalow
While monkies play above-a,
We'll make love-a.

Now I'm not the kind

To let vibrations,
Trigger my imagination
Easily.
No, that's just not me.
But I turn into a tiger,
Everytime I get the sight of,
What I love, love, love.

Ohh oh oh...

When my baby,
When my baby smiles at me,
I go to Rio
De Janeiro.
I'm a Salsa fella,
When my baby smiles at me
The sun lightens up my life,
And I am free at last.
What a blast!

Wooooo hooooo...

whoa oh oh ohh...
whoa oh ohh...
When my baby,
When my baby smiles at me,
I go to Rio
De Janeiro.
I'm a Salsa fella,
When my baby smiles at me
The sun lightens up my life,
And I am free at last.
What a blast!

(Rio)

When my baby smiles at me,

I go to Rio.
Rio,
Rio De Janeiro.

Take me back,

I put it in.
Take me where I know
I'm gon' to Rio.
Oh ohh...
"

Performance by Peter Allen

Well, that is all for now. Have a good Carnaval and drink a lot. ENJOY!

Doing crazy things for money and Food expressions - my twelfth class.

HI

At my last class with David - on February 24th - we talked about how our week was.
David asked us if we had done the homework - I had, but I forgot it at home.

Janaína and Flavia didn't go to class, I don't know why. I think that they could write here why they missed the last David class.

We read some texts about money and how people can do crazy things for it. We read stories about person that got rich in lottery and games and how they got poor again, as fast as they got rich. Easy come, easy go.

The other text tells how some fruits and foods have inspirated jargons, like: it is not my cup of tea / a piece of cake / selling like hotcakes / easy as pie / as cool as a cucumber.

After that, David gave us the homework for the next class.

Ok guys, I will be here soon and I hope be more inspirated to write a longer and better text for you.

Books, holidays and upsetting- my eleventh class

HI GUYS! HOW ARE YOU TODAY?

Today at Sonia class - on February 21st - I thought that the class was a bit boring. I don't know why, maybe 'cause I was a little tired and the others talked a lot of "The Hunger Games". It is a book that I din't read, because it is not my cup of tea.
We talked about holidays and that today is something about Presidents in U.S.
Sonia asked us what our favorite legal holiday is. For me it is September 7th, because, differently from many Brazilians, I'm a patriot.

Of course we talked about how our weekend was. During the last weekend I ate pizza and made rice with chicken and corn and hired a maid. I told them that I restarted to read the second book of the series "Percy Jackson and The Olympians". Its name is Percy Jackson and "The Sea of Monsters". This book tells a story of Greek Mythology and all the story is around the life of Percy/Perseus, Poseidon's son.

I'm thinking of a lot of things, including that it is my worst text..rss... it is, maybe, I am...hummm...a little upset...

I need to speak more in the classes, I need to learn how to use past perfect...and many many things more...

I know I had just eleven classes...but... I'm very concerned...
I know that the English language is easier than Portuguese, but I guess my methodology of studies is wrong.

Hey Sonia, if you are reading this text, give me a feedback.

Ok, I'll see you soon and until there I really hope to be better...

Laron Syndrome - my tenth class

HI

At last David class - on february 17th - we talked about a disease that scientists have discovered in Ecuador about twenty-three years ago.
That disease is caused by a rare gene mutation that affects the way the body uses growth hormone. It is called Laron Syndrome.

People with this syndrome are typically short, but they are protected from cancer and diabetes and they live for a long time. They live longer than their taller relatives.

Generally, they die of alcohol abuse and accidents.
Some of them have families and they live pretty happy.

During the class, David taught us some words and told a joke too.

"There were three guys A Brazilian man, a French man and a Japanese man. They were preparing to go camping. The Brazilian man said: I will be responsible for the beer; the French man said: I will be responsible for the food; and the Japanese man asked them: and what will I be responsible for? They
answered him: You will be responsible for the other supplies.
Ok, the Brasilian and the French arrived at the camp with the beer and the food and the Japanese didn't arrive there. They were waiting for him about
one hour, two hours and after three hour the Japanese appeared behind a tree and said: SUPPLIES!!!!" Rsss.

How did you meet your love? - my ninth class

HI!

At last Sonia class, on February 14th, we talked about movies, make up, skin care and about one thing that I laughed a lot and I was very embarrassed too, I mean: I was really, really very embarrassed.

We talked about stories of love. How we met our partners.
So I told them that I also have a partner and how we met (and my face got red).

But before that - horror time - we talked about how our weekend was and I told them that I am writing this blog.
Sonia reached this page, and read the articles aloud.

In my opinion, my colleagues - and Sonia - liked it.
It would be nice if they also create a blog, a blog like this.

Ps.: guys, I was very embarrassed at that time, but now I'm cool.

I will see you after the next class. Bye!

I missed... - my eighth class

I didn't go to the last David's class - on February 10th - because I was sick. I had a hard stomach ache.

I am really sorry about this.

Bye. I will see you soon.

Valentine's day & Men X Women - my seventh class

HI PEOPLE!

At last class, on February 7th, we talked about Groundhog’s Day, a tradicional holiday in the U.S.

To learn more about this theme, click on the Groundhog picture ===>

After that, we talked about Valentine's day. In the U.S., it is celebrated on February 14th. There - in the U.S. - the meaning of this celebration is different from here. They give cards called "Valentines" for every people who they love - mother, father, brother, friend, hasband, wife, fiance... In Brazil we just celebrate between lovers.

After that, the women from the class, started to talk bad things about men. They said things like: men do not do anything... we must keep the house clean whereas they drink beer with their friends... they don't put de toilet top down...and blah blah blah.

I said to them that I am really, really different, because I keep my house clean, and I do this much better than many women - by personal experience. I asked them: if you are so angry with your partners, why are you still with them???
So they said that in Brazil the women are educated to be a housewife and I replyed saying that since nowadays they know that, they can change this reality, so they stayed quite.

Well, that was all. rs

Taboo - my sixth class

HI EVERYONE!

My last class was on February 3nd. Normally, the teacher of Thursday classes is David, from Canada, but in the last class he was sick. So, Monica, a young teacher, taught us.

We basicaly played a game named Taboo. In this game we must catch a block with many cards. In each card there is one more important word at the top, and five more below.

You may not show your card for other players and you must tell things about the word at the top of your card for the other players to discover what word it is. You may not say the five words during your explanation.

Ps.: the five other words are associated to the TOP word.

In the end of that class, Sonia, the teacher of Monday classes, entered the classroom carrying a cake. It was because it was Janaína's birthday. Janaína is a student, like me.

So, we talked about many things, all in English, like we always do, and we started plainning a party.

My new idea

HI THERE!

After many months disappeared, I am here again, and now I am changing a little the idea of this blog.

I am learning English!

My new idea is to make this blog something periodic. A place where I will write about my English classes.

I have had six classes until now. So, I won't tell you anything about the five first ones. I will start explaining about the last class and after each class I will write here about it.
It is a way for me to see my evolution and to improve too.

I will be so happy if you, the readers of this blog, write something about what I wrote. Since I am just learning, I will surely make many, many mistakes.

I will not change the name of this blog, because I think this new idea might be Talvez Útil too. I guess that it is always Útil to learn something new.

You can give me your opinion and you can learn a little bit too and, maybe, you can laugh.

Ok guys, let's go!
